Welcome to South Bank Runners!
Thank you so much for choosing to join our family of passionate, motivating, social runners. We are delighted to welcome you officially to South Bank Runners. This welcome note contains information about the club, which we hope you’ll find interesting and informative.
About Us
South Bank Runners has 50+ members of all ages and athletic skill levels who share the enjoyment of running, motivating each other and socialising. We are an affiliate of Queensland Athletics (QA) and a QLD registered Incorporated Association. Our primary activity is our group training sessions run every Tuesday and Thursday. However, we also have social runs and events frequently throughout the year as well as ad-hoc runs every weekend.
Other Activities and Benefits
The club conducts several social activities, such as coffee after each Parkrun, a social dinner held on the first Tuesday of every month, an annual Christmas dinner, and an annual club meeting. We encourage you to regularly check our Facebook page at South Bank Runners where you’ll find information about our regular training schedule and other activities and events.
South Bank Runners encourages its members to get involved in the local running community by volunteering for running events such as Park Run.
Members of South Bank Runners also receive discounts from our various sponsors and supporters. Details of these can be found in our Members Area.
Volunteers
South Bank Runners relies exclusively on volunteers to make all the events and activities successful. On top of the Run Leaders who freely offer up their time every week, our volunteers make sure sessions are organised, web pages are updated, lots and lots of messages are sent, events are booked and executed, meetings are documented, records are maintained, equipment and supplies are purchased, bills are paid - you get the idea! There is a lot to do and all are welcome to help pitch in.
Run Leaders
Our Run Leaders are just as passionate about running as you are and generously give up their time every week to lead the sessions as well as organise the training plans. They have a wide range of backgrounds and running experience, which gives South Bank Runners the scale to cater sessions for runners of all abilities.
Get to know our current Run Leaders for 2019 by visiting the Run Leader Page.
Communications
Our primary communication is via our South Bank Runners Facebook group page and group messenger. If you are not already in the Messenger chat, ask any of our members to add you.
There is also the website, which is updated regularly, contains our training schedule, including information about all our upcoming events.
In future, newsletters will be sent out monthly to club members. Information is often provided in announcements at the beginning of each run or at beers after.
Governance
As noted above, South Bank Runners is an Incorporated Association governed by a seven-member board of directors, elected annually by the members.
Board members terms are from the conclusion of the annual meeting to the following year annual meeting. Board members elected in 2019 are as follows:
Chris Hand, President
Jade Nixon, Secretary
Graeme Fox, Treasurer
Georgia Hardy
Nathan Eades
Benjamin Leaver
Shane Mathews
Don’t hesitate to contact me directly using the contact form or any other board member with any questions, comments or concerns. Thanks again for joining and we look forward to seeing you at our sessions.
Chris Hand, President,
South Bank Runners.
